On 19 October 2012 an R-29R Submarine-launched ballistic missile was launched from the Delta III class submarine K-433 Svyatoy Georgiy Pobedonosets towards the test range at Chizha.
In February 1973, State Rocket Center Makayev began development of a new two-stage liquid-fueled ballistic missile R-29R (3M40, RSM-50, SS-N-18).
It is based on the R-29RM designed by State Rocket Center Makeyev and related to the Volna Launch Vehicle.
