He was then chosen to learn under Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. V. Sankaranarayanan, from whom he imbibed the tradition of Ganakaladara Madurai Mani Iyer for ten years.

In addition to performing, Suryaprakash passes down the tradition of Ganakaladara Madurai Mani Iyer by teaching and conducting workshops and lecture demonstrations.

He is born in Ravipalli village in a rural lower-middle-class background.
