4 unusual facts about Rafah


Al-Bana

Made from raw material and equipment smuggled into the Gaza Strip using tunnels in Rafah, the al-Bana was the first example, during the Al-Aqsa Intifada, of Hamas' engineers capacity to produce relatively sophisticated weapons.

Canada Camp

Following Israel’s occupation of the Sinai in 1967, some 5,000 Palestinian refugees in Rafah were forced to relocate when their shelters were destroyed by the Israeli authorities during road widening and "security measures" of the early 1970s.

On 26 May 2009, he crossed Rafah into the Gaza Strip with the Hope For Gaza convoy of medical aid.
