When they discovered that the name had already been used by Griveaud, they renamed the fossil Rahonavis.
•
The name was inadvertently used again in 1998 for a fossil species of Mesozoic bird, Rahona ostromi, by Catherine Forster and colleagues.
The discoverers of Rahonavis initially named it Rahona but changed the name after discovering that the name Rahona was already assigned to a genus of lymantriid moths.
