Ascott Martyrs

Mr Hambridge of Crown Farm, Ascott sacked his men who had joined the union and employed men from the neighbouring village of Ramsden as strikebreakers.

After the London and North Western Railway built the Tyldesley Loopline in 1864, Ramsden built a colliery railway to join the mainline railway at Ramsden's Sidings east of Tyldesley Station and Tyldesley Coal Company's Green's Sidings.

Sir William Lowther, 2nd Baronet

She died on 1 January 1736, and he married his second wife, Catherine Ramsden (died 5 January 1778), the daughter of Sir William Ramsden, 2nd Baronet, later the same year on 17 August 1736.
