He began his career as an animator with the anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura and subsequently into episode direction and as a director with Studio Deen's anime adaptation of another Rumiko Takahashi work, Ranma ½.
Shimazu is notable for having had voice roles in all four of the major anime TV series based on the works of Rumiko Takahashi - she played Shinobu Miyake in Urusei Yatsura, Sayako Kuroki in Maison Ikkoku, Kodachi Kuno in Ranma ½, and Abi-hime in InuYasha.
She is best known to many Rumiko Takahashi fans as the voices of Kasumi Tendo from the Ranma ½ series and Kikyo from the InuYasha series, both of who are from Takahashi's manga.
