Wingfield was born in Rathgar, Ireland, youngest son of Colonel the Rev William Wingfield, Royal Field Artillery.
The Roman Catholic Church of The Three Patrons (named after the three Patron Saints of Ireland: St Patrick, St Bridget and St Columba) on Rathgar Road is known as "The Servants' Church" because in the late 19th and early 20th century it was the place of worship for the large number of servants who worked and lived in the large houses in the area.

An oil portrait by Seán Keating was presented to her by the Women Graduates' Association on her retirement from UCD in 1947, after which she lived at 38 Brighton Road, Rathgar, where she died on 5 November 1951.
In 1963, during his first year at UCD, he was approached by the Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society and played Jack Point in The Gaiety's production of The Yeomen of the Guard.
It catered to "fallen women" and operated in Blackhall Place, Dublin (1921–34), and in Orwell Road, Rathgar (1934–72), until its closure.
The Pile Baronetcy, of Kenilworth House in Rathgar in the County of Dublin, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 24 September 1900 for Thomas Devereux Pile, Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1900.
