3 unusual facts about Red Symons

Red Symons

Born in England, he emigrated to Australia (on the same boat as the members of the Bee Gees) at the age of 9, in 1958.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he combined his on-air role on Hey Hey It's Saturday (also playing in the house band) with composing for various film and television shows (such as Blue Heelers), and jingle writing.

At one point, he filled in for Lynne Haultain on the breakfast program for that station, where he was such a success that he was retained permanently in that slot.

Graeme Strachan

A beachside funeral was attended by Strachan's family and friends, including Skyhooks guitarist Red Symons and radio colleague Gary Belcher.

Mark Trevorrow

He first came to prominence in the cabaret duo Globos with Wendy De Waal, and they scored two Australian Top 20 hits with quirky covers of "Tintarella de Luna" (1982) and Sonny & Cher's "The Beat Goes On" (1983), both of which were produced by Red Symons.
