He was born in Remplin, Mecklenburg at the grand ducal families estate the youngest child of Duke Georg of Mecklenburg and his first wife Irina Raievskya.
He died on May 22, 1902, at Remplin, his death "sincerely regretted" by all the royal houses in Germany.
