On 29 November 1970 (Yugoslav Republic Day), political activists Zvonko and Julienne Bušić used the observation deck to throw leaflets advocating Croatian independence, for which they were arrested.
The song was famously performed live on January 27, 1963 by Lata Mangeshkar at the National Stadium in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on account of Republic Day (26 January) 1963, just two months after the end of the war.
On February 17, 1981, he got transferred to another prison, in Foča, before getting pardoned some year and a half later for Republic Day 1982 (November 29).
