A465 road

It starts again at Hereford, crosses the Wales-England border over the River Monnow, continues south to Abergavenny and Brynmawr, then continues west along the heads of the valleys, past Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, Rhymney, Merthyr Tydfil, Hirwaun and Glynneath.

Cefn Golau

Cefn Golau is a disused cholera cemetery situated on a narrow mountain ridge in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, and located between Rhymney and Tredegar in south-east Wales.

In 1849, the disease had already struck the neighbouring communities of Rhymney in July and Nantyglo in August before reaching the town.

Ted Rowlands, Baron Rowlands

He was appointed a CBE in 2002, and in June 2004 he was given a life peerage, as Baron Rowlands, of Merthyr Tydfil and of Rhymney in the County of Mid-Glamorgan.

Rowlands served as Member of Parliament for Merthyr Tydfil until the constituency boundaries were redrawn and renamed for the 1983 general election, when he was returned for the new Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney constituency.


Bedwellty

On 19 June 1874, Ebbw Vale, Rhymney and Tredegar local boards of health and local government districts were formed, each including parts of the civil parish.

Pontprennau

The Rhymney River trail gives both walkers and cyclists easy access to the Newport Road both west and east of Llanrumney, and hence via the eastern entrance through Llanrumney Bowls club to the extensive retail park on Newport Road West.

During the 1945 season, Rhymney lost probably their greatest player, Bob Evans, to the top tier team Newport.

Walnut Tree Viaduct

Finally the line circumvented the town of Caerphilly, and crossed the Rhymney Valley by means of the Llanbradach Viaduct, near Pwllypant, constructed to ease the gradient onto the BMR at Maesycwmmer.
