In 1833 Johann Rudolf Ringier purchased a printing works facility in the Swiss town of Zofingen and began by printing regional gazettes and school curriculums.
Private industry clients included leading companies in the broadcasting industry (CBC, Ottawa; ORF, Vienna; YTV, Toronto) the print media (VÖZ, Vienna; Bertelsmann, Gütersloh; Ringier,Zurich; FAZ, Frankfurt; SN, Salzburg, ZVB-Mediaprint, Vienna) the energy and telecommunication sector (Verbund, Vienna; Telekom Austria, Vienna).
In 1986 Tecan was nominated as the Swiss Company of the Year by the Zurich industrialists Branco Weiss and by publishers Jean Frey and Ringier, and awarded the Branco-Weiss Prize for innovative companies (TV broadcast).
