Guardians Awsiyā are protectors of the message or the nation such as Joshua and Yasaʻ (Elisha) and Imāms for the Shīʻa.

This work was the source text for many later works of Islamic Law and for one of the first Islamic texts the Bilali Document written in the United States written by Bilali Muhammad, a slave in Georgia, originally from Timbo, Guinea.

He is also the author of a risala titled al-Nafha al-wardiyya fi l'-ushba al-kindiyya on sarsaparilla and the treatment of syphilis.
He studied many texts under his tutelage including the Muwatta of Imam Malik, the Mudawwana of Sahnun, the Risala of Ibn Abi Zayd, the Tamhid of Ibn 'Abd al-Barr, the Muqaddimaat of Ibn Rushd, the Dhakira of al-Qarafi, the Sharh al-'Umda of al-Fakihani, the Mukhtassar of Khalil as well as many other prime texts of the Maliki school.
Among the works he is known to have copied is a 230 folio collection of farmans isssued by the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb (1068–1118/1658–1707) which he completed in Jalalabad in 1312/1894; the divan of Šehab-e Torshizi, a late 18th century poet from Herat; and Risala-ye fiuz, a treatise on explosives.
