Among the variety of vegetation types supported by the marshes are River Red Gum forest and woodland, extensive beds of Common Reed, and meadows of Water Couch.
In southern Australia it is often associated with stands of River Red Gum and Black Box.
The sanctuary contains many different types of wetland and is home to many plant species as well, such as River Red Gums, tall spikerush, and tussock grass.
The Tintaldra store, constructed in 1864 with rough hewn River Red Gum beams and rafters and walls made from vertical slats of Stringybark timber, is still standing today.
