Rob Grant's Colony, published in 2000, is a science fiction comedy farce which deals with a generation ship in which breeding is strictly controlled and a crew member's offspring automatically inherit their parent's role on the ship.
He also gained fame in Red Dwarf: Season 2, Episode 2 as Gordon - the incredibly intelligent computer aboard the S.S. F Scott Fitzgerald, who is involved in a chess game with Holly - a part specially written for him by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, with whom he had previously worked on the Radio 4 series Wrinkles, and as Petty Officer Parker in BBC Children's Series The Doombolt Chase.
It is part of the Red Dwarf series of novels, based on the popular television show created by Naylor and his partner Rob Grant.
Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers is a best-selling science fiction comedy novel by Grant Naylor, the collective name for Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, co-creators and writers of the Red Dwarf television series, on which the novel is based.
The 'Grant Naylor' collaboration, as it had become known, was best known for the creation of the cult science-fiction comedy series, Red Dwarf, which evolved from Dave Hollins: Space Cadet, a recurring sketch within Son Of Cliché.

Dave Hollins: Space Cadet was a series of five sketches on the BBC Radio 4 series Son of Cliché, produced by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor.
Following publication of Last Human, Rob Grant also wrote a solo Red Dwarf novel, entitled Backwards.
