The new movement was dubbed Funk Art, and Arneson is considered the father of the ceramic Funk movement.

Kurt studied art at Sacramento City College, SFAI, Cornell University and UC Davis where he received his Master of Fine Arts Degree studying with Robert Arneson, Roy DeForest, William Wiley and Manuel Neri.
