His mother, Anna Cabot Jackson, a daughter of Patrick Tracy Jackson, married Charles Russell Lowell, Jr., brother of Robert Traill Spence Lowell and James Russell Lowell.

Robert Traill Spence Lowell

He was invited by Bishop Spencer, of Newfoundland, to go to Bermuda, where he was made deacon in December 1842, and priest in March 1843, and was also appointed domestic chaplain to the bishop and inspector of schools in the colony.

Robert Traill Spence Lowell (born in Boston, Massachusetts, 8 October 1816; died in Schenectady, New York, 12 September 1891) was a clergyman.

In 1873 he became professor of the Latin language and literature in Union College, Schenectady, New York, and discharged the duties of that department for six years.

He was half-brother of Francis Cabot Lowell, father of James Russell Lowell and Robert Traill Spence Lowell, grandfather of Civil War General Charles Russell Lowell, and the son of John Lowell, "The Old Judge".
