Carrington is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and is named after Lord Carrington, governor of N.S.W. in 1887 when the area was proclaimed a municipality.
In 1890, the Governor of New South Wales, Lord Carrington appointed Kerry as his official photographer.
The Harbord Estate was named to honour the wife of New South Wales Governor Lord Carrington (Robert Wynn Carrington) (1885–1990).
The first recorded journey on the track was in 1887 by the NSW Governor, Lord Carrington, and his wife.
In 1888 Lord Carrington, as State Governor (also Grand Master Freemason of the United Grand Lodge in NSW), laid the foundation stone of Sydney's Trades Hall.
