Upon its release, bandmembers Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal stated that although they were happy with the video release in general, they were less enthused about the visual effects added to it.
In addition to co-producing most of Tears for Fears' records, Orzabal also co-produced Oleta Adams' successful album Circle of One (1990) along with Dave Bascombe, following on from Adams' collaboration on the 1989 Tears for Fears album The Seeds of Love.

In April 2001 he released his first proper solo album, Tomcats Screaming Outside, under his own name.

During his younger days, he was influenced by great producers such as Quincy Jones, Trevor Horn, Arif Mardin, Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Hugh Padgham, Peter Gabriel, Roland Orzabal, Roy Thomas Baker.
It was released as the first single from their 2004 album Everybody Loves a Happy Ending and is the first single that features both original members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith since 1990.
"Everybody Wants to Run the World" is a re-recording of the song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", originally written by Roland Orzabal, Ian Stanley and Chris Hughes of the British band Tears for Fears and featured on the band's 1985 second LP Songs from the Big Chair.
