Martin successfully exerted pressure to have him named bishop of Elne; in 1410, he was transferred to serve as bishop at Vic, where in 1417 he decreed that every parish must maintain a register of baptisms.
He began his ecclesiastical career as a cleric in the see of Elne.
The movement of Liberal Catholicism was initiated in France by Hugues Felicité Robert de Lamennais with the support of Jean-Baptiste Henri Lacordaire, Charles Forbes René de Montalembert and Olympe-Philippe Gerbet, Bishop of Perpignan, while a parallel movement arose in Belgium, led by François Antoine Marie Constantin de Méan et de Beaurieux, Archbishop of Mechelen, and his vicar general Engelbert Sterckx.
He served as both Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elne (now Roman Catholic Diocese of Perpignan-Elne) in France and of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Huesca in Spain.

Her actions left their mark in many donations made to various ecclesiastical institutions: Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa (941, 953, 962), Ripoll, Elne (962), and Camprodon (944).

He resigned the see just over a year later (April 17, 1499), in order to get the see of Elne, left vacant by the death of Cesare Borgia.
The city of Elne was valiantly defended by the so-called bâtard de Roussillon ("bastard of Roussillon"), the illegitimate son of Nuño Sánchez, late count of Roussillon (1212–1242).
