Ronan Harris often refers to Praise the Fallen as a way of self-help through a difficult time of his life — in particular the track “Forsaken”, of which a vocal version was recorded for Solitary EP.
Featuring remixes of the title track by Ronan Harris of VNV Nation and Tom Shear of Assemblage 23, the EP contained two other new songs, 'Schadenfreude' and 'Higher Ground (voxless)' and two reworked older songs.
In the years preceding VNV Nation's debut album 'Advance and Follow', he worked for Q8 Petroleum in central London as an IT Manager and was a journalist / webmaster for dark electro magazine Side-Line.

Along with Ronan Harris of VNV Nation and the members of Covenant, he is considered by many to be one of the pioneers of the futurepop genre of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The soundtrack for the film features various tracks by Combichrist, Encephalon and Tribal Machine, while the score was composed by Scott Glasgow with additional music by Ronan Harris of VNV Nation.
In 1999 Stefan Herwig, A&R manager at Off Beat, left the company over differences in promotion, to join forces with Eskil Simonsson (Covenant), Johan Van Roy (Suicide Commando), Bryan Erickson (Velvet Acid Christ) and Ronan Harris (VNV Nation) to form a new label, dependent (which opened January 1999).
