The sculpture opening was attended by James Watson, best known as one of the discoverers of the structure of DNA in 1953 with Francis Crick and Rosalind Franklin.
The play presents the life of Marie Curie and features a number of historical woman scientists as characters, including Hypatia of Alexandria, Ada Lovelace, and Rosalind Franklin.
The newspaper then points out a few cases in which precursor discoveries had been awarded with a Nobel, along with a few deserving cases in which it had not, such as Rosalind Franklin and Oswald Avery.
There are also awards for early career scientists: International Astronomical Union Fellowships, Society for Neuroscience Fellowships, the Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award to a young woman geneticist given in cooperation with the Genetics Society of America and the American Society for Human Genetics, and the Peter and Patricia Gruber Awards at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel for scientists there.
From 2001 to 2004 he was vice-dean for research at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Groningen, and together with dean D.A. Wiersma was responsible for incisive changes such as the tenure track system and the Rosalind Franklin fellowships for women.
Each house is named after a woman or women of note from history: Bronte (red) is named after the Brontë sisters, Curie (yellow) after Marie Curie, Franklin (blue) after Rosalind Franklin and Johnson (green) after Amy Johnson.

James Watson was shown the photo by Maurice Wilkins without Rosalind Franklin's approval or knowledge and along with Francis Crick, Watson used characteristics and features of Photo 51 to develop the chemical model of DNA molecule.
The Randall continues the tradition of Biophysics at King’s established by Sir John Randall, which produced the studies of the structure of DNA by Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins.
The Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Award was established in 2003 and is awarded annually by the Royal Society to a person for an outstanding work in any field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM fields).
