Born in General Lagos, Santa Fe, Álvarez came through the youth ranks at hometown side Rosario Central, making his first-team debuts in a Copa Libertadores game against Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño on 23 February 2006, a 0–2 home loss.
In 1997 the goal was recreated in Cuba, where Ernesto Guevara (the youngest son of Che Guevara, a famous fan of Rosario Central) played the role of Poy scoring the goal as in 1971.
The lines handled by F.C.O.S., which served the southwest of Santa Fe Province and the south of Córdoba (up to the city of Cruz Alta), were merged with those of the larger company, and the passenger services handled by Rosario Oeste Santafesino Station were transferred to Rosario Central Station, while the former was renamed Rosario Este.
The teams nicknames relate from the same incident where Rosario Central refused to play a charity game for a Leprosy charity, hence their nickname Canallas (Scoundrels).
Vizcarra played for the Rosario Central youth team until 2006 when he was loaned to Socio Aguila FC and then Club Zacatepec in Mexico, in 2007 he was loaned to LDU Quito.
Four of the University's structures are also declared National Cultural Treasures by the National Museum: Main Building, Arch of the Centuries, Santissimo Rosario Central Seminary, as well as the Grandstand and the University field.
