Exceptions are two local isolated railways – Saltsjöbanan and Roslagsbanan – that use DC power, the Stockholm Metro and tramways use DC power, the Oresund Bridge linking Sweden and Denmark is electrified at 25 kV, Danish standard; the split is located on the Swedish side near the bridge.
Instead, passengers coming to Stockholm East have an interchange connection to the Stockholm metro through the adjacent Tekniska högskolan metro station since 1973.
The former Roslagsbanan railway station Universitetet used to be called Experimentalfältet but changed its name when the university had been established there.
Until 1976 there was a railway stop called Germania at a part of Roslagsbanan (Djursholmsbanan) which was closed that year.
Connections to central Stockholm are either by the E18 motorway or the Roslagsbanan train service.
In 1885 the line from Stockholm East Station (Stockholm) to Rimbo opened, what is now the longest part of Roslagsbanan and originally built and run by the private enterprise Stockholm-Rimbo Järnväg (SRJ).
