Merrydown

The very first batch of Merrydown Vintage Cider was fermented from 450 gallons of apple juice using a 300 year-old oak cider press borrowed from a local farmer and within a year the scale of production had outgrown Mr Ward's garage at his home in Rotherfield and the partners bought Horam Manor, with seven acres of land.

Rigby Swift

Swift died on 19 October 1937 while still a High Court judge, and was buried in Rotherfield.

On 15 October he had a heart attack, and on 19 October, exactly six months after his wife's death, he died at home and was buried in a graveyard in Rotherfield.

Titus Hosmer

The Hosmer family is traced to Rotherfield in Sussex (and much earlier to Dorset), where a certain Alexander Hosmer was native before a marian martyr in nearby Lewes and the family consequently moved to Kent in the following generations.


John and William Merfold

During Easter week in the Spring of 1451 men gathered at Rotherfield, Mayfield, and Burwash within Sussex, and in some settlements within Kent.

River Rother

River Rother, East Sussex in East Sussex and Kent, whose source is near Rotherfield (East Sussex), and whose mouth is at Rye (East Sussex) on the English Channel coast
