Barely audible at the end of the song, Glenn Frey can be heard whispering "Say Goodnight, Dick," a line made famous by Dan Rowan of Rowan and Martin but in this case referring to Richard Nixon's resignation.
He has also made theatrical and television appearances (i.e.The Goodies, Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, Not Only But Also, and The Establishment).
The song was inspired by a comic act on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In about a judge by Pigmeat Markham, whose own "Here Comes the Judge" (a totally different song) charted two weeks after Long's did in June 1968, and became a Top 20 hit.
