During the time of the wars with the Welsh, the manor of Clifton became established and was granted Royal Borough status by Edward III of England in 1377, allowing it to hold a weekly market on Thursdays and an annual four-day fair.
She was Chair of the Governing Body of both Danes Hill School in Oxshott and Surbiton High School in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, as well as Vice Chair of the Governing Body of Tolworth Girls’ School, a large comprehensive school also in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
A number of street name plaques still bear the designation "Royal Borough of Kensington." Indeed in the 1971 Disney classic, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the sign for Portobello Road is shown fleetingly.
