Eleanor Margaret Burbidge (née Peachey), FRS (born August 12, 1919 Davenport) is a British-born American astrophysicist, noted for original research and holding many administrative posts, including director of the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
Initially a teacher, he was appointed assistant to Maskelyne, then astronomer-royal, at the Royal Greenwich Observatory and was involved in the Schiehallion experiment.
He started his career at the Royal Greenwich Observatory (RGO) in Herstmonceux, England in 1969 and was awarded his D.Phil by the nearby University of Sussex in 1973.
One site which had been of interest for a long time was Herstmonceux, in East Sussex, the former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
