The Royal High School has international relationships through regular musical exchanges with sister cities on the Continent such as Florence (from 1975) and Munich (from 1979), and with other schools such as the Theodolinden-Gymnasium, Munich (from 1979), the Lycée Antoine-de-Saint Exupéry, Lyon (from 1991), and the Scuola di Musica ‘Giuseppe Verdi’, Prato (from 1993).

George Grubb was born in Edinburgh (in 1935) and was educated at James Gillespie’s Boys School, Edinburgh, the Royal High School, Edinburgh, the Open University (BA, 1974 and BPhil, 1983), the University of Edinburgh (BD, 1978) and San Francisco Theological Seminary (DMin, 1993).
Through a Royal grant, he later went to study at New Academy of Music, Berlin (Theodor Kullak's institute) from 1868 to 1875 and later at the Royal High School for Music and Composition with Woldemar Bargiel and Friedrich Kiel as his prime teachers.
Of the city's six public Basic Education High Schools, BEHS 1 Meiktila or Royal High School is considered the most selective.
