The sandwich was named by the scientists of the Royal Society of Chemistry "Britain's cheapest lunchtime meal" in November 2011, with the cost cited as being as low as 7.5 UK pence per sandwich.

Professor William Graham Richards C.B.E., M.A., D.Phil, D.Sc, C.Chem, FRSC was born 1 October 1939 in Hoylake, Cheshire and was Head of Chemistry (1997-2006) at the University of Oxford.
She is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and the City and Guilds of London Institute, of which she is also Vice-President.
