He was brought up by his mother who spent all the money she had on him, and was educated at Moscow University and abroad in Germany, at Heidelberg and Berlin (Turgenev himself studied in Berlin).
He collaborated with artists such as Claude Frank, Pnina Salzman, Roland Pontinen, Staffan Scheja, Bengt Forsberg, Wolfram Rieger, Peter Jablonski, Pavel Glilov, Gerard Poulet, Zachar Bron, Guy Braunstein, Ulf Wallin, Arve Tellefsen, Jan Stanienda, Bernard Greenhouse, Gary Hoffman, Alexander Rudin, Torleif Thedeen, Karl-Heinz Steffens, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Nikolai Dyadura, Noam Sharif and Agnieszka Duczmal.
Building relationships with investors such as New York real estate magnate Lew Rudin, Bregman moved successfully into personal management, eventually representing such stars as Al Pacino, Woody Allen, Barbra Streisand, Faye Dunaway, Alan Alda and Bette Midler.
