With stiff competition coming from the likes of Andrew Mehrtens, Aaron Mauger and Dan Carter for the Crusaders, he decided to go into exile in Europe where he started with the Italian club Rugby Calvisano.


Massimo Bonomi

Bonomi played for Rugby Brescia (1985/86-1989/90), Amatori Rugby Milano (1990/91-1997/98), where he won 4 titles of the Italian Championship, in 1990/91, 1992/93, 1994/95 and 1995/96, and the Cup of Italy, in 1994/95, being a key player for the team, Amatori Calvisano (1998/99-2002/03), and Poncarale (2003/04-2006/07), where he would finish his career, aged 40 years old.

Returning to Italy, he played for Rugby Calvisano (1999/2000), Rugby Bologna (2000/2001), Rugby Roma Olimpic (2001/2002), Amatori Rugby Alghero (2002/03), Rugby Bologna (2003/04), for a second time, and Rugby Leonessa 1928, that he represented from 2004/05 to 2005/06, being his last team.

He played for Rugby Calvisano, from 1988/89 to 2005/06, where he had his debut at first team aged only 16 years old.
