1952 in Luxembourg

26 July – At the 1952 Summer Olympics, Josy Barthel wins the men's 1,500m in a new Olympic record time: to date, the only time an athlete has won a gold medal for Luxembourg at the Olympics.

2000 World Open Water Swimming Championships – Men's 10 km

The bronze medal was won by Yevgeny Bezruchenko from Russia who was also the winner of the 5K earlier in the week and was swimming his first ever 10K.

Pampana's disqualification meant Petar Stoychev from Bulgaria was elevated to the silver medal and Tuesday's 5km champion, Yevgeny Bezruchenko from Russia, won the bronze medal.

He is coached by Aleksey Akatyev who is competing in the 25K event on Saturday.
