The song was commissioned by Blur's American record label, SBK Records, to increase the album's appeal for the American market.
SBK Records signed Gordon and released the single in the U.S.A., making it her debut solo single in her homeland.
Swid would go on to acquire the music publishing division of CBS Records, later known as SBK Records.
