Painted Willie was a punk rock band started in 1984 in Los Angeles by drummer and film-maker Dave Markey after the demise of his first band, Sin 34.
Felix also began the record label Smoke Seven Records and signed his band and many others who were ignored by the big labels then, such as Redd Kross, Bad Religion, JFA, Crank Shaft, Circle One, SIN 34, Youth Gone Mad, etc.
His band, Funeral Information, had played early punk shows with SIN 34 and Black Flag and his other band, Target 13, had written the song "Rodney On The ROQ" for KROQ-FM DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, which appeared on the compilation album Rodney On The ROQ, Vol 2 under the independent record label Posh Boy Records.
For the live shows played in 1984, the band recruited guitar player Mike Vallejo of Circle One, who had also been a member of SIN 34.
