Drottningholm lent its name to the S/S Drottningholm, later used as a mercy ship during World War II used for the repatriation of diplomats, civilians and prisoners of war between Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
On 21 August 1917 she was damaged by the German submarine U-102.

Later, at about 11:30, he insisted, "We hope that reports from the Virginian and the Parisian will prove to be true, and that they will turn up with some of the passengers (other than those already aboard the Cunard liner Carpathia)."
