The area of the municipality comprises a section of the Saane valley and of the Fribourg alps.
The municipality is located in the upper Intyamon valley, and the Lake Lessoc storage tank on the Saan river is located in the municipality.
Laupen Castle was built in the 10th-13th centuries as part of a line of imperial castles along the Sense and Saane rivers, which meet at Laupen.
