Natural gas field

Like oil, natural gas is often found underwater in offshore gas fields such as the North Sea, Corrib Gas Field off Ireland, and the Sable Offshore Energy Project in the Scotian Shelf near Sable Island.

Orgyia leucostigma sablensis

Orgyia leucostigma sablensis is a subspecies of Orgyia leucostigma found only on Sable Island in Nova Scotia, Canada.


National Parks of Canada

Feasibility studies have been undertaken for establishing further National Parks in several areas, including Wolf Lake in Yukon, South Okanagan-Lower Similkameen in British Columbia, Manitoba Lowlands (north-western Lake Winnipeg), Mealy Mountains in Labrador and Sable Island in Nova Scotia.

Thomas Head Raddall

Raddall's first job was as a wireless operator on seagoing ships, including the CS Mackay-Bennett, and at isolated wireless posts such as Sable Island.

Sable Island horse

In 2008, the Nova Scotia Legislature declared the Sable Island Horse as one of the provincial symbols, making them the official horse of Nova Scotia.

The horses live only at Sable Island and at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park on the mainland of Nova Scotia, with the latter herd descended from horses removed from Sable Island in the 1950s.
