The second attempt by the Russians took advantage of the calm weather on the morning of 26 July, the day of Saint Pantaleon.
There are fifteen country chapels in the countryside outside the village and a church of Saint Pantaleon built on the ruins of the former monastery dedicated to Saint Nicholas, founded in 1628 and destroyed in 1826 by Ibrahim Pasha.
Another explanation is that the name comes from Saint Pantaleon (in Italian Pantaleone), a saint venerated in Venice.

The monastical school (working in 1871–1877), the St Pantaleon, St Petka and St Marina chapels and the 17th-century bell tower of the St Demetrius Church have been restored by a local association; an ethnographic collection and an open air museum of agriculture were set up as well.
