The author of a biography of J. D. Salinger was prevented from quoting or paraphrasing Salinger’s ideas displayed in an unpublished, but publicly archived, correspondence written by Salinger.
Forgotten for decades, this story was uncovered in 1963 by Salinger's biographer Warren French.
The character, as Holden Morrisey Caulfield, also appears in Salinger's "Slight Rebellion off Madison", published in the December 21, 1946 issue of The New Yorker.
