Iduri supported Rini's successor to the premiership, Manasseh Sogavare, and was appointed Minister for National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace in Sogavare's Cabinet - thus becoming the Minister in charge of facilitating national reconciliation in the aftermath of the ethnic conflicts of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The bill was introduced by MP Sam Iduri, Minister for Peace and Reconciliation, then adopted by Parliament on August 28, 2008.
