At an anti-Good Friday Agreement protest in Antrim on April 1998 McKee shared a platform with then fellow DUP member Sammy Wilson and Kenneth Peeples, a described leader of the Orange Volunteers and Protestant fundamentalist, who burned a copy of the agreement.
In Feb 2013 it has been revealed that the decision was even questioned by the finance minister Sammy Wilson.
He held the position until the 2005 general election when he was defeated by Sammy Wilson of the DUP.
In the 2003 Assembly election Wilson stood successfully in the East Antrim constituency, alongside fellow DUP candidates George Dawson and David Hilditch.
