3 unusual facts about Samuel Stutchbury


Asylosaurus

It is based on partial remains, described in 1836 by Henry Riley and Samuel Stutchbury as pertaining to Thecodontosaurus, that Othniel Charles Marsh brought to Yale University between 1888 and 1890.

Crested chameleon

The species was first described by Samuel Stutchbury in 1837 and is one of the most recognisable species of chameleon.

Thecodontosaurus

In the autumn of 1834, the surgeon Henry Riley and the curator of the Bristol Institution, Samuel Stutchbury, began to excavate "saurian remains" at the quarry of Durdham Down, at Clifton, presently a part of Bristol.
