Hannikel managed to escape from the dungeon – today called Hannikel's tower – after some days but was finally arrested by the earl at Sargans.
One of the main lines which ran as a RegioExpress line (abbreviation: RX) was the Rheintal Express, from St. Gallen through Sargans to Chur (the other was the CityVogel from Zurich to Konstanz).

Additionally, it was on the most important trade route between Chur-Sargans-Lake Constance and was the starting point of the pilgrimage routes to Einsiedeln and Rankweil.
Only strategically important places such as the Freiamt or those along the route from Schwyz to the Rhine valley at Sargans (and thus to the alpine passes in the Grisons) were forcibly re-catholicised.
