8 unusual facts about Saturn Corporation


Chevrolet Lumina APV

Assembled in the now defunct North Tarrytown Assembly, these U-body vans consisted of a galvanized steel spaceframe wrapped in composite plastic body panels that were impervious to rust and minor dents and dings, a manufacturing technique developed on the Pontiac Fiero and used extensively on General Motors' Saturn line of vehicles.

GM U platform

Released in the fall of 1989 for the 1990 model year, the U platform/GMT199 utilized a galvanized steel space frame underneath composite plastic dent resistant panels similar to those used in Saturn models and the Pontiac Fiero.

GM2900 platform

The platform was intended to replace both division's J-cars, the Opel Ascona C and the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk.2, although the platform eventually branched out to Holden, Chevrolet's Latin American branch, and even Saab and Saturn.

Opel Antara

GM in the United States and Canada introduced the Opel Antara as part of the Saturn division under the name "Saturn Vue" in 2007 for the 2008 model year.

Saturn MP transmission

The Saturn MP Transmission were a series of 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions that were manufactured by Saturn Corporation exclusively for the S-Series.

Vauxhall Astra

General Motors' Saturn division in the US also offered the Astra as a captive import from late 2007 until Saturn was discontinued following GM's 2010 bankruptcy.

This route provides direct service to the General Motors (formerly Saturn Corporation) Spring Hill Manufacturing complex at its western terminus in Spring Hill.
