He was born and spent his childhood in Schweinfurt, Germany where he started playing football at its academy.
On 17 August 1943 the unit was one of those who intercepted American bomber forces attacking the Messerschmitt factory in Regensburg and the ball bearing plants in Schweinfurt.
In 1993 he obtained a Masters Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Culinary Art from the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt.
