The Battle of Dalnaspidal was a battle during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and one of the last engagements of the Scottish Civil War, bringing an end to the Royalist rising of 1651 to 1654.
In 1645 Leslie was sent back to Scotland to deal with the Royalists there during the Scottish Civil War.

David Leslie, 1st Lord Newark (c. 1600–1682) was a cavalry officer and General in the English Civil War and Scottish Civil Wars.
He served on both sides in the Scottish Civil War, playing an important role in his father's occupation of Aberdeen in 1646, engaging an enemy cavalry commander in single combat and then storming the town.
