3 unusual facts about Seán Ó Riada

Put 'Em Under Pressure

The Horslips song "Dearg Doom", was itself based on the traditional Irish tune, O' Neill's March, (which appeared as Marcshlua Uí Néill on Sean O Riada's 1969 album "O'Riada sa Gaiety",) and which refers to Hugh O'Neill and his part in The Nine Year War.

Seán Ó Riada

Ó Riada also composed and directed classical music for theatre and film, combining traditional Irish tunes and "sean-nós" (old style) songs with the classical orchestral tradition, similar to noted nationalist composers such as Dvořák (Czeck), Bartók (Hungarian) and Ralph Vaughan Williams (English).

Tara Browne

A less well-known memorial to Browne was composed by Seán Ó Riada.
