The facility was home to U.S. Navy Seabees operating in the Persian Gulf region under Task Force Charlie as of early 2003.
Lewis Combs (1895 – May 1996), was a United States Admiral who helped found and direct the famed "Seabees" construction battalions in World War II.
He graduated from Lamar College, attended Cranbrook Educational Community and served with the Seabees on Guadalcanal during World War II, but was active as a sculptor before the war.
