Carl Gangolf Kayser

After the collapse of the Mexican Empire in 1867, he returned to Austria, where he restored several medieval castles, such as Kreuzenstein, Hardegg or Liechtenstein Castle near Vienna.

Carl Gangolf Kayser (or Carl Gangolph Kaiser; born 12 February 1837, in Vienna; died 2 September 1895), was an Austrian architect at the service of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico, during the Second Mexican Empire.

Miramare Castle

Many coats of arms of the Second Mexican Empire decorate the castle, as well as stone ornamentations on the exterior depicting the Aztec eagle.


France–Mexico relations

In 1867, Emperor Maximilian I was captured and executed in Querétaro thus ending the Second Mexican Empire.
